Brian Curran: Ross’ dismissal all political

I read the March 19 news article “Emails show Ross’ ouster hard for board to explain” about UNC Board of Governors’ emails detailing their thoughts on the dismissal of Tom Ross as the university system president.

I am stunned to learn that, even now, the BOG has yet to articulate any rational reason for Ross’ dismissal from his post.

Despite the board’s public denials to the contrary, one is left with the only reasonable inference remaining, that Ross was dismissed for blatantly political reasons. He is a Democrat, and the board is dominated by Republicans. Period.

What makes the situation even more absurd is that the board did not even try to invent a reason for Ross’ firing that would seem to make its action legitimate.

Margaret Spellings, the new system president, would be well advised to tread carefully among this bunch. They are apparently capable of just about anything. Is this any way to run a railroad?
