Eugene M. Simmons Jr.: Let’s see SBI report on ‘murder’
Referencing the March 19 Triangle Politics article “Sutton refers to police shooting as ‘murder’ ”: I am sick and tired of hearing how so-called “leaders” are inflaming the black community for their own benefit!
Let’s face it: A person is a convicted felon, on parole, being charged with a serious crime, is armed and in any way confronts or fights with an armed police officer attempting to make an arrest, nothing that happens could be murder of the criminal.
It is so sad to see a community become aroused by the death of a criminal the community nurtured and not aroused to see their young men become criminals.
I would never condone police brutality of any fashion, but face the truth: If someone commits criminal acts, if he is a convicted felon who cannot by law have even a bullet in his possession and he has a gun, what in the world can we expect in a confrontation with the police?
Let’s all wait for the SBI report before “convicting” one of our officers for something that almost seemed inevitable due to the circumstances.
