Carol Hollister: Nixing law would cause more harm
Regarding the March 22 news article “Vote to void LGBT ordinance expected”: I am the grandmother of a 12-year-old transgender girl who looks and acts every bit like the beautiful young woman she is. Can you imagine what might happen if she is forced to use the boy’s bathroom? There is a real chance of her being bullied or even attacked.
We are acquainted with the family of a 16-year-old transgender boy who has begun hormone therapy and now looks and acts like any other 16-year-old boy.
Do our legislators think anyone would be better off if they force him to use the girl’s bathroom, the bathroom of his birth gender? The most vulnerable among us need compassion and protection. Criminals don’t care about the law. Please think this through.
