Tom Sisk: GOP rulers

Regarding the March 24 news article “LGBT protections end as McCrory signs bill”: The shameful law rushed into place by our Republican rulers in the General Assembly is a triumph of political cowardice and of a crippled morality. They continue to be blindly driven to punish those who aren’t sufficiently like them to merit their dubious “protection,” and with this “legislation” they put at further risk a population that has already suffered tremendously because of their gender identity.

This law has no foundation in numbers, the stats are not in the GA’s favor, the legislators cite one instance in Seattle and ignore decades of experience in cities where transgender protections have been in place without incident.

But this law was never about truth, it was about a regressive fear of those who are different and a mindless need to punish those they think are “wrong” (read: “different from them”).

This law is despicable, and the people who rushed to enact it, while refusing to allow Democratic legislative participation, should be ashamed of themselves – not that they ever could be.
