Jeff Woodhead: An abuse of power

Regarding the March 24 news article “LGBT protections end as McCrory signs bill”: As our elected officials undoubtedly know, there has basically never been a documented case of a transgendered person (or a person pretending to be transgendered) assaulting a stranger in a public restroom.

We can only conclude, then, that House Bill 2 is not, and has never been, about bathroom safety, and that any claim that bathrooms are the rationale for this bill is a lie. Rather, this bill is about one thing only: The General Assembly’s desire to make it safe for every two-bit ayatollah in town to impose his version of Christian sharia on his customers and employees.

The threat posed by bathroom predators is completely fake; that posed by wannabe religious tyrants is all too real. The General Assembly wants us to believe it protected us from abusers, but it has now put us all at the mercy of the real abusers.
