Roy McCormick: Excluding the majority
The LGBT population is, by most generous estimates 1 1/2 to 2 percent of the overall population or three to four individuals out of every 200. Transgender-identifying individuals being of this percentage must be a still smaller number.
To give the wants, needs and security of transgender-identifying individuals more consideration than those of non-LGBT individuals is discrimination indeed. Inclusion they say? To accomplish this form of inclusion requires the exclusion of the many by and for the few.
Dignity they say? Dignity is a self-image, if someone doesn’t possess it, no law can mandate that they have it. Respect they say? Respect is not a one way street. Deny me respect and they deny themselves respect.
Wrong side of history they say? History is people, events, actions and consequences all interconnected and forming a chronology ending in yesterday. History can only properly be studied from a distant lens, but it cannot be judged right or wrong, for to do so would be to obviate the unchangeable and all that follows.
To claim there is a wrong side of history is to expose an arrogance born of wishes not facts.
