Steve Barnes: Cooper can’t ‘pick and choose’
Regarding the March 30 news article “N.C. attorney general refuses to defend law”: Roy Cooper has a clear conflict of interest, and he needs to resign from his (attorney general) job.
As state attorney general, Cooper should be taking legal action in support of our state Constitution and our state laws and not picking and choosing which laws he, and “his” N.C. Department of Justice will defend and which he will not.
Cooper once again appears to be using his current office, his current job to help him get his next office, his next job – that being the next governor (Cooper is running against Gov. Pat McCrory).
Cooper’ s decisions regarding which parts of the state Constitution will be supported and which will not is shameless political posturing and is a clear conflict of interest. Cooper needs to immediately box up his personal items in “his” attorney general office and be walked out the door. Shame on him.
