Buck Denton: GOP experiments must end

Regarding the March 25 news article “Businesses weigh in on N.C.’s new restrictive LGBT law”: Republican leadership in North Carolina has undoubtedly turned back the clock decades for North Carolinians and the state’s businesses because all branches of our government have been flushed with conservatives whose judgment does not reflect the world in which we live.

The legislature merely passes laws that seem to reflect the bogus issues found within misleading chain emails instead of actual observations from the world in which we live or the needs of people and our environment.

Arguably, until the recent past, North Carolina was proudly one of the most, if not the most, progressive states in the South and one of the most forward-thinking states in the union. This characteristic combined with North Carolina’s natural beauty (something else under attack) attracted businesses and people from around the world to our state.

Now, under Republican leadership, politicians, with the help of special interests, have repealed and replaced progress with laws that sadly do nothing but hurt North Carolinians and diminish our standing amongst the other states and the world. It is time for this political experiment to end.
