Dwight D. Stone: Hunt, UNC split amicable
Your March 30 editorial “Hunt group does good work” missed some important facts.
The Hunt Institute Foundation Board voted to become independent of UNC-Chapel Hill in January. The UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees voted to support this decision at our meeting last week. The separation was a mutual decision reached after careful consideration by both organizations, not a political mandate.
University administrators and Hunt Institute leaders discussed many options, including a tighter integration with one another. Ultimately, both parties agreed that this outcome would allow the Hunt Institute to better fulfill its mission and expand its innovative programming.
The final decision was best for each organization – and the people of North Carolina – moving forward.
Dwight D. Stone
Chair, UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees
