Jed Honn: Discipline lacking now
Regarding the April 1 letter “End corporal punishment”: The letter writer asked “Who will speak for these children?” A more appropriate question that comes to mind is “who will discipline these children?”
It’s all too easy these days to forget these kids did something to deserve being paddled. I was paddled one time early in my school career more than 35 years ago by my elementary school principal and then again by my parents when I got home. That was the first and last discipline problem I had in school.
It’s a shame we live in a society where persons that misbehave or commit crimes have no fear of the consequences. I weep for our children, but not because they’re being paddled.
