Randy Wasserstrom: Driving courses needed
Regarding the March 30 news article “Teens learn hands-on how to drive safely”: I wholeheartedly support this program and others like them. But what happens when teens and adults get a license?
In many cases, all the safe driving instruction which includes not tailgating, not crossing two to three lanes at a time, using turn signals, not going through stop signs, not cutting other drivers off, etc., goes out the window. The culture of the road seems to enforce all these behaviors even though all are illegal.
The police only seem to enforce speed violations (and sometimes this is to cushion the coffers of the state). The driver who tries to drive safely is left in the lurch.
I suggest a legal program which mandates a safe driving course for all drivers every two years. Hopefully it would help.
