Stacie Hagwood: Elderly couple made mistake

Regarding the April 7 news article “Elderly couple at risk of losing home to schools”: I feel very sorry for William and Frances Brodie, who may (and should) lose their house for bond forfeiture. But not because of the “immoral” taking of their home, but the immoral choice that their children are making to allow it to happen.

If their son came back and turned himself in, it could be mitigated. They made a calculated choice to put up their home and this is natural consequence of that choice.

The humane choice for the county is to put a lien on it that turns the house over to the county when they die or vacate.

Stacie Hagwood
