Jon Pauley: Check IDs, not spelling

Regarding the March 19 Point of View “My brush with the law”: I want to let Rudy Ravindra know his experience must have been due to the way the Board of Elections decided to interpret the law. I am Caucasian, and I had the same experience.

The person at the registration didn’t take my license, but as I was stating my name I held it in front of him with the information side up. He told me he didn’t want it yet and asked me to restate my name. I did, but he misunderstood me and asked me to spell it. Still holding the license in front of him, I said it was on the license. He once again asked me to spell it and started typing an “H” for the “P,” which I got him to correct, and he found it.

I hope they tell the people working the registration tables for the next election they are allowed to look at the ID. I like to think we get some value from the law.
