James Lehner: A personal touch to leadership

Regarding the April 9 news article “N&O publisher Quarles to retire”: I found it interesting that the publisher of The N&O is retiring. It reminded me of the high esteem I hold for this gentleman as a genuine leader and exemplary executive.

I base my feelings on a nearly unheard of action: He answers his own phone! What senior executive in any large business does this?

I had the honor of chatting with him personally about a rather small issue that was corrected immediately. I even bungled his name, but he was most gracious to me.

Whoever takes the job of N&O publisher has big shoes to fill!

Congratulations to Orage Quarles on his success and best wishes for an enjoyable retirement. I am certain he will be missed.
