Robert Harris: Where would Caitlyn go in N.C.?

Regarding the April 13 news article “McCrory order expands protections, disappoints critics”: Gov. Pat McCory couldn’t wait to sign House Bill 2 into law, thus making North Carolina the laughingstock of the country, yet again. Only this time the issue was, among other serious matters, about bathroom privileges.

Soon, he’s acting surprised and defiant, seeing the enormous, yet predictable, backlash against HB2, which he should have anticipated, given the Georgia, Arkansas and Indiana experiences.

Now comes his half-baked effort to back away from a few provisions of the law, all the while leaving in place the most immoral (even silly) provisions of HB2. Our flip-flopping governor has only reinforced the backlash, robbing our state of thousands of jobs and millions (billions?) of dollars in revenue.

So given all that’s transpired, I remain curious: If Caitlyn Jenner (former Olympian Bruce) dared visit our state, should she use the women’s or men’s room? And what if she had changed the gender on her birth certificate to female, who would know, who would have dared check and would her presence bother other women in the same restroom? If so, would she be more welcome in the men’s room?
