Will Mitchell: Restrooms and minors

This controversy related to the LGBT access law seems to have gotten out of hand. I think most of us do not know what to think.

If someone appears to be a man, but goes in the women’s bathroom at the airport behind my 14-year-old daughter, what should I think? I wish the LGBT folks would put themselves in others shoes because we are confused.

I think individual businesses can make individual bathrooms unisex, but large bathrooms where I do not have access to protect minors in public spaces would have to be redesigned.

I think our government bodies do not have a handle on the logistics of this bathroom situation, and that is what they are concerned about.

I feel for LGBT folks’ situation, but a lot of us are trying to get our head around what to do related to minors. I would hope the politicians would put themselves in our shoes and help redesign and/or understand what to do so we do not discriminate or make anyone feel uncomfortable.
