Brad Davis: Churning out fiascos

Regarding the April 17 letter “Selective outrage from PC elite”: It’s such strange irony to hear the governor and legislative leaders attack protests against House Bill 2 as driven by ideologues.

After all, it was reactionary ideology that led to the “emergency” session that created HB2 in the first place. The painful difference is that while opposition to the law has been coordinated and effective, the manner in which HB2 was created, passed and signed was ham-fisted and incompetent.

Gov. Pat McCrory’s plate-of-cookies show of clarifying the law by executive order underscores just how tone deaf leaders in Raleigh can be when confronted by visceral negative feedback; it’s as if they are perpetually unable to anticipate and prepare for the real consequences of their policies.

I think reasonable people on both sides of the debate can agree that the only reliable thing to expect from Raleigh these days is fiasco.
