Patrick O’Neill: Stop state ‘traditions’

Regarding the April 20 news article “4th Circuit rules for teen in Virginia bathroom case”: Gov. Pat McCrory reacted to the U.S. 4th Circuit ruling with the comment: “I don’t think it’s the traditional way we do things.”

Sadly, McCrory is the leader of a state Republican Party that appears to want to maintain some of the ugliest “traditions” of the South: racism, discrimination and bigotry, to name a few. Rather than uplift the lives of the poor, the sick, of immigrants and our transgender residents, Republicans enact legislation that makes their lives even more difficult.

North Carolina can – and must – do better. McCrory needs to save our state from the menace that is his own party.

Patrick O’Neill
