Christopher J. Forsyth: Remember Iran letter
How quickly they forget. I refer to your Washington bureau writers of the fawning April 18 news article, “Tillis tries to recast image, build new ties with Democrats.”
It was only a year ago that Tillis, then a D.C. novice, signed a disgraceful (some said traitorous) letter to Iran’s leaders essentially saying that President Obama’s word was no good and that a nuclear deal with Iran could be undone by the next president.
Your reporters make no mention of Tillis signing on with the misguided Sen. Richard Burr and 45 other Republican senators so soon after his arrival in D.C. that he could not possibly have gathered the subtleties of all that was involved before doing so.
Looking back now at the Iran deal, Tillis’ ill-advised, ill-mannered signing calls into question his judgment.
