Fran Langstaff: Disengaged Newton
Regarding the April 27 Under the Dome item “ ‘Straight’ talk”: If Sen. Buck Newton truly thinks his remark “fight to keep our state straight” isn’t homophobic, I shudder to think of what our state could become if he were elected attorney general.
And, if he really doesn’t know how others could make that connection, I have to wonder where he has been living for the past 20 years and why he has been so disengaged from the people of North Carolina and the world.
North Carolina’s attorney general needs to be an intelligent individual connected with the people of our state and aware of the world around us. Newton’s remarks show that he surely isn’t that person.
