Dan Figgins: Adapting, preventing climate change

I enjoyed the May 9 letter “A dangerous distraction” advising against debating whether apples fall because of gravity and whether the Titanic hit an iceberg.

Applied to disasters caused by climate change, the analogy of saving Titanic passengers from drowning while the ship is still sinking is called “adaptation.” Figuring out and acting to protect other ships from smashing into icebergs is called “prevention.” Responding to climate change events calls for both.
