Caroline Taylor: Using, abusing First Amendment
In their April 28 Point of View on House Bill 2 “Nondiscrimination provision holds up,” Thomas Molony and Scott Gaylord said that “voters and their elected representatives will need to decide how to craft anti-discrimination laws to balance the rights of religious believers with the rights or others.” Why? We already have that protection in the First Amendment, which ensures that believers of all faiths are free to pursue their beliefs.
To legislate a right for some believers to impose their religious views on others violates the First Amendment. Such a law is, on its face, an establishment of religion.
