Richard Kane: Helpful information on transgender
Thank you for the excellent May 16 news article “Transgender: Answers to 5 key questions.” I wish it had been on the front page because more people need to understand that transgender people do not choose to be who they are any more than I chose to be who I am.
Fortunately, I was born with sexual anatomy that matched my gender identity. Transgender people are not, as Gov. Pat McCrory said, “boys who think they are girls.”
McCrory had a responsibility to seek information from the many fine physicians in Raleigh, Durham or Chapel Hill to help understand what it means to be transgender. If he had done so, he might have been less likely to sign House Bill 2.
