Marvin Woll: Bill would destroy solar, wind in N.C.

In regard to the May 19 news article “N.C. senators take aim at wind power, solar energy”: We see that these senators are again proposing legislation that will do more to harm than to help residents.

Senate Bill 843 would be a disaster for our state’s booming solar industry. The extreme setback proposals in this bill will prevent solar companies from even considering North Carolina.

The bill’s requirement of millions of dollars for surety bonds for decommissioning solar or wind projects is going to slam the door on any future wind or solar development in this state.

It is time for the Senate to realize that solar is important to the state economy and provides many thousands of jobs. We can only hope that SB843 is thrown in the trash and never sees the light of day.

Marvin Woll
