Stephen Norton: Race not ‘an invention’

J. Peder Zane wrote in his May 25 column “I identify as 40 and black. That’s OK, right?” that “race is even more of a social construct than gender. Men and women will always be biologically distinct, but race is almost entirely an invention.”

Given our history of racial injustice, I can imagine that the vast majority of African-Americans would find this statement ridiculous and, moreover, deeply insulting.
