Donna Kratter: HB2 expansive, expensive
Regarding the May 26 Under the Dome article “Burr says legislature ‘botched’ House Bill 2”: Sen. Richard Burr stated that HB2 was far too “expansive.” Perhaps he meant to say it was far too “expensive.”
HB2 is not a “business friendly” bill, but the true costs of this bill are being paid mostly by small businesses and their employees. Caterers, event coordinators, hotel staff, cooks, waitresses, electricians, plumbers and other trade professionals who provide services for large events have had their hours cut as events are canceled.
And to add insult to injury HB2 also stripped the rights of these same loyal employees to sue their employers for unpaid wages, overtime pay, sexual harassment, race discrimination, discrimination based on physical disability and violations of child labor laws.
This bill is both too expansive and too expensive.
