Ken Henke: Open primaries to all voters
Regarding the June 5 news article “What to expect from new congressional maps”: The act of gerrymandering creates uncontested general elections that remove our right to vote for our state representatives.
If the voter is not a member of the party of the single candidate, we do not get to vote for our state representative.
I propose that North Carolina have a nonpartisan committee redraw the election districts. If this is not an option that our state parties can agree on then the primaries will need to be open to all voters regardless of party affiliation to keep this a democratic process.
