Bob Rankl: Stanley steamed
It’s hard to believe that hockey is alive and well in the Triangle based on the coverage provided by The N&O. The NHL championship was decided, and the Stanley Cup was raised, and this rated a couple of paragraphs on Page 7 (out of 8) of the Sports section? Just because the Hurricanes weren’t involved doesn’t make it less newsworthy. Instead, the Sports front page was dominated by ECU’s loss in the College World Series (not even the championship game by the way).
Hockey is going to struggle here as long as the media choose to basically ignore it unless the Canes make the playoffs.
