Chris Mazzara: Arrest brawling baseball players

Regarding the June 16 Sports column “How should Major League Baseball handle on-field brawls?”: This is an easy question. Players who fight on the field should be arrested.

Baseball consists of pitching, hitting, base running and fielding. There has been fighting during ballgames since the earliest days of the sport, but fighting is not part of the sport. It spoils the sport. It is a primitive, disruptive, doltish meeting of chumps.

If I pick a fight with someone in the stands or out on the sidewalk, I get arrested, charged with disorderly conduct, if not assault and battery, and carted off. If players pick fights with each other, they should get the same.
