N.G. Mills: Money talks, wins
Regarding the June 9 news article “In defeating Ellmers, groups send ‘clear signal’ ”: The elections June 7 sent voters a clear message: Money talks.
This election was not singled out, as it applies to all them. Voting has become “not a vote of the people,” but one of who has the most money.
In my district, only 100 people had voted by noon. That in itself is very sad. People think their votes don’t matter because the person with the most money backing him wins.
Special interest groups spent $1.2 million to defeat Renee Ellmers, and with the GOP redrawing districts, it basically dictates who is going to win.
Gerrymandering creates general elections that remove our right to vote for our state representatives. Why vote in general elections as it appears the results are already predetermined is the consensus?
