Larry Reed: Contradictory Burr
Regarding the June 23 news article “Burr’s bid to let FBI tap email data without a warrant falters in Senate”: I was disappointed again by Sen. Richard Burr’s wrong-headed and contradictory positions on the First and Second Amendments in the same week.
Recently he kowtowed as usual to the NRA and voted against protecting the American public by passing smart gun safety legislation. And then he proposed legislation to restrict our First Amendment rights by extending authority to spy on Americans’ email records without warrants.
Is Burr that obtuse? Or does he lack the courage to protect our legitimate First Amendment rights as well as provide for constitutionally mandated “well-regulated” gun safety laws? Now is the time for effective leadership, not the usual inept posturings from Burr.
