David C. Sokal: More signs needed at RDU

My experience with the new parking system at RDU has been terrible.

My wife picked me up recently and parked in Economy. With her bad hip, walking from a distant third floor row to Terminal 2 left her in pain.

A few days later, I picked up a friend flying home. I tried Premium and still had a long walk to Terminal 2.

Surprisingly, it turns out that the facilities are not so bad, but the signs are terrible.

Here are three secrets to RDU parking:

▪ We can still park in the old one-hour parking pickup section near Terminal 2 by taking the leftmost two lanes of the Economy parking section. But it’s a well-kept secret – no signs.

▪ When I picked up my friend, I didn’t know that RDU has a cell-phone waiting area. However, it’s a well-kept secret – no signs.

▪ If you’re picking up an arrival in Terminal 1, parking in Premium will give you access to the old Terminal 1 short-term parking area closest to the terminal.

RDU needs to fix this!
