Kat Duke: Rules don’t stop criminals

Regarding the June 28 news article “Man gets 11 years for teen’s death at hotel”: The tragedy that occurred in a hotel room while Nathan Clark was innocently lying in bed is unspeakable.

At the heart of the matter is not the how or why “a man with 28 convictions had access to a gun.”

We all also wonder how a man who is on a “do not fly” list is able to purchase automatic weapons to carry out carnage against innocent people in Orlando.

Criminals will obtain firearms whether they are on a list or have prior convictions. It is only the law-abiding residents who obtain permits in the usual, lawful manner.

Does anyone actually think Nathan’s family asks how a convicted felon obtained a gun? The answer is illegally, that’s how!
