Janie Freeman: Keep fighting, Bernie

The July 1 editorial “Sanders needs to end his race” stated that it is time for Bernie Sanders to withdraw from the presidential campaign. This would be a grave mistake.

The Sanders campaign has revealed a huge rift between the elite of both parties and the general public. The enthusiastic support for the issues Bernie raises cannot be wiped under the rug as the Democratic establishment tries to continue with business as usual, and as the media once again pronounce the political revolution over.

As many see their financial future eroding, the wealth of this country migrates to the wealthy few. Both parties, funded and supported by the wealthy elite, create rules, trade agreements and tax laws that favor them at the expense of the 90 percent.

As futures dim for the coming generations, people are also beginning to see that they are paying both in wealth and blood for costly wars that benefit the 10 percent.

Bernie needs to keep fighting for the renewal of the Democratic Party, for the future of this country as well as the viability of the Democratic Party.
