Tom K. Heilman: Inactive House should do something

Regarding the July 7 news article “Conservatives’ objections hold up GOP gun bill”: It’s very difficult for me to believe that the members of the United States House of Representatives care about their constituents. They are prepared to spend time and money to pursue the careless judgment of Hillary Clinton but refuse to address the the deaths of young black men or the slaughter of people and children by deranged individuals.

They will not take a stand either for or against a ban on weapons specifically designed to kill humans. They do this by not allowing a vote to come to the floor. What or whom do they fear? They ignore the problems identified by inadequate police training and biased enforcement.

I believe most members of the House would identify themselves as “Christian.” But it appears that the lives and families of our people are not important to them.

Our legislators must make the killings of others their priority. Now is the time to act.
