Roxanna J. Evans: Rainy days for state retirees

Regarding the July 2 news article “Legislature repeals one portion of HB2”: It absolutely amazes me that the N.C. General Assembly can take money from the disaster relief fund in the amount of $500,000 for legal fees for House Bill 2 but can’t find the money to give state retirees anything but a bonus. A bonus for what? Being a state employee? Is that my reward for being good?

And, get this, they can take money from the rainy day fund also because, “The state has more money set aside between disaster relief and the rainy day fund, than at any time in the state’s history.” This was a quote from House Speaker Tim Moore.

Well, how about giving state retirees money from the rainy day fund. This retired state employee has had nothing but “rainy days” for the past three years.
