Elisabeth Penn Jones: Wasting disaster funds
Gov. Pat McCrory and the General Assembly’s lawmaking tune as of late does not jive with the fiscally responsible, anti-government intervention and “safety of families” values the GOP claims to own and possess.
Taking half a million taxpayer dollars from disaster relief funds to defend a nationally embarrassing, hateful bill is both fiscally irresponsible and morally reprehensible. Disaster relief funds are of high importance to help us after tropical storms, hurricanes and whatever else comes our way.
Using any sort of emergency funds for litigation is negligent and highly irresponsible.
I’m really sorry that they chose to use our state budget to stick an expensive Band-Aid on their personal failures, but here’s the truth: North Carolinians need disaster relief from HB2 and hateful lawmakers. Not the other way around.
