Bill Zieger: GA a lost cause

Regarding the July 2 news article “Legislature repeals one portion of HB2”: One can easily see the irony in the NCGA’s apportioning $500,000 from the state disaster fund to defend House Bill 2 for that bill has become a disaster.

Add to that the judicial decision to declare two congressional districts unconstitutional, leading to upheaval in the primary elections and added expense in conducting a second primary; the blatant gerrymandering of state legislative districts to assure perpetual Republican dominance in state government, the legality of which has yet to be determined; the finding that NCGA’s attempts to redistrict both the Wake County school board and county commissioners races (because the people voted in Democrats rather than Republicans) were found to be unconstitutional; and with the likelihood the the voter ID bill may also be nullified, one could come to the conclusion that a state disaster fund is a most appropriate choice.

It appears the NCGA, rather than St. Jude, has now become the Patron Saint of Lost Causes.
