Keith Breneman: Selective data for firearms deaths

As I read the July 18 column “How arguments against gun control detached from reality” by Evan DeFilippis and Devin Hughes, one statistic stood out to me.

They stated that 95 percent of terrorism deaths in the United States were caused by firearms. I believe that is probably true based on the sample period they selected.

However, what caught my eye was the sample period. It starts four months after 9/11 . I don’t believe that jet aircraft could be considered firearms. Adding the almost 3,000 deaths from 9/11<XA> would not have told the story they wanted to tell.
