Raymond Cobb: Guice will help corrections
About a year ago, I wrote a letter in response to an editorial in which you lauded N.C. Department of Public Safety commissioner David Guice and his efforts to steer the corrections department in the right direction. In it, I remarked that those efforts were inadequate, and that the public safety department could do much more.
A year later, the commissioner wrote the Point of View “Our changing mission” on July 9.
In the interest of fair play and at the risk of alienating some of my peers, I must commend him for a very sound and comprehensive plan of action. He seems to have the necessary acumen for modern-day corrections. For myself and other offenders I’ve spoken with, his words are encouraging and inspirational.
I hope the residents of North Carolina realize that Guice’s vision will lead to safer communities.
