Both parties have now made their “deposits” and spent their resources. It looks to me like the balance sheet could now be summed up as follows: Credit the Democrats for nominating a loyal, prepared, public servant inspired by the inter-relationship of the social gospel and the American experience. Debit the Republicans for anointing a foul-mouthed, fear-mongering, empire-builder stuck on himself, his progeny and his own private ambition.
Which candidate will the American voter choose in November? The answer will say more about the American character in 2016 than it will about the character of either candidate.
