Regarding the Aug. 3 news article “Voter ID will be defended without Cooper”: The governor’s witticisms about Roy Cooper aside, defend voter ID to where exactly?
To the full Fourth Circuit en banc, where nine of the 15 active judges are Democrat appointees? Or to the Scalia-less Supreme Court, where a 4-4 deadlock would leave the existing decision in place?
There is simply no plausible route for the state to take to overturn this decision. Anyone telling the governor otherwise is a clown or a hack (or both).
The General Assembly can pass a new bill, or give up and move on. But stop sending our taxpayer money to out-of-state attorneys who are clearly in over their heads.
