Susan Marshall: Usurpers rule

I had to chuckle at the Aug. 12 letter “Biased Fourth Circuit” from Rep. David Lewis in which he railed that the Fourth Circuit court has “usurped the right of elected representatives to set policy.”

Isn’t it ironic that he doesn’t find it nearly so abhorrent when he and his fellow legislators do exactly the same thing to elected representatives in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro and very nearly Asheville?

Or when they try to limit the rights of many others to vote at all through their voter ID bills or for their votes to be equal via gerrymandering? I guess it’s more fun to be the usurper than the usurpee.
