Lesa O’Neal: The face of Syrian suffering

The Aug. 19 column “When dogs elicit more concern than Syrians” by Nicholas Kristof really hit home. It brought about some real soul searching.

The day-to-day fighting and losses that the Syrian people face are not something that is in the paper every day and, therefore, it is not something I have thought about much.

To help make it more personal, I cut out the picture of the boy that was in the paper and placed it in my kitchen, where I see it several times a day. The picture serves as a reminder to do the one thing I know I can do to help, and that is to pray for the Syrian people. Pray for a solution that will end the war and pray for peace.

Thank you for putting a face to the pain and suffering happening in Syria.

Lesa O’Neal,. Holly Springs
