Jeanne Romeo: One-time jump
The recent articles and editorial about the insurance companies experiencing higher than expected costs with ACA miss an important point.
Every person I know but one who joined ACA immediately had a long-standing problem taken care of, including several back surgeries and a shoulder surgery, things that had prevented them from working well and enjoying quality of life.
None of them anticipates using insurance in the future for any but routine matters. I am sure this is true of the majority of those insured. Insurance companies should realize that claims will level off and drop in the next few years.
