Anne Hopkins: Don’t waste a vote

Regarding the Aug. 20 letter “Going to Disney”: The reader who is so disenchanted with both candidates in the 2016 presidential race gives evidence that being old enough to vote does not equate to being mature enough to vote wisely.

After years of looking forward to vote for the president, this young person is “envying my friends who are still too young to vote.” This boils down to envying those who do not yet have the responsibility that accrues to adult citizens of our country; it wishes to dodge the burden of choice. How sad.

Many people are not happy with either choice this election year, but to abdicate the responsibility of choosing the better of the two options is both naive and cynical. In such an election, it is perhaps more important than ever to analyze the ramifications of either candidate’s election and to make the best choice available.

Wasting one’s vote is, indeed, a Mickey Mouse decision.
