Atlanta Braves prospect Lucas Sims among 3 Mudcats sent to DL

The Atlanta Braves announced Thursday that three Carolina Mudcats pitchers, including former first-round draft pick Lucas Sims, had been placed on the disabled list.

Also placed on the DL were Tyler Brosius, a former N.C. State quarterback, and Andrew Thurman. All three are right-handers.

The Mudcats’ team bus was involved in an accident early Tuesday morning in Columbus County. The team did not say Thursday if the three players were injured in the accident, which resulted in seven players being taken to Columbus General Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The Mudcats’ scheduled three-game series against Myrtle Beach was postponed by the Carolina League. The Mudcats resume play Friday in Zebulon with a series against the Pelicans.

The Braves on Thursday transferred pitchers Sean Furney, Brandon Barker and Jorge Zavala to the Mudcats from lower Class A Rome.
