North Carolina's baseball team won its Regional for the first time in five years this past weekend, beating N.C. A&T and Houston, twice, along the way.
But it only gets tougher from here, as UNC (41-18) will face a Stetson (48-11) team that has the best overall earned run average (2.50) in the country. Stetson is riding an 18-game winning streak, which is also the best in the nation.
"They're pitching numbers, yeah, they're scary," UNC coach Mike Fox said Thursday. "Six hundred and seventy-something strikeouts as a staff? That's mind-boggling.
"We're going to have to match them on the mound for sure."
The Tar Heels are pretty good, too. As the No. 6 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, UNC will host No. 11 Stetson in a best-of-three game series at Boshamer Stadium starting Friday morning at 11.
UNC, which has won 16 straight games at Boshamer, led the ACC in runs per game during conference play with 7.26.
Tar Heels first baseman Michael Busch, who won most outstanding player in the Chapel Hill Regional last weekend, said the team is going to prepare for Stetson's pitchers like it would any other pitchers.
"We've faced some studs before and we've done just fine before," Busch said.
Players on both teams have never made it this far in the postseason. Here is how the two teams stack up against each other in the NCAA Super Regional.
