North Carolina lands Charleston Southern grad transfer Christian Keeling

Charleston Southern grad transfer Christian Keeling will transfer to North Carolina, he announced in a tweet Friday night.

Keeling, a 6-foot-4, 175-pound guard, averaged 18.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game last season. He led the Buccaneers in scoring last year. He was considered one of the top grad transfers on the market, and he will be eligible immediately.

Keeling had previously said he was going to announce his decision on May 12. But he couldn’t wait.

“My mother always told me if it is in your heart then don’t keep it hidden,” he wrote.

Keeling is the third player to announce his commitment to the Tar Heels this week. High school recruits Cole Anthony and Anthony Harris both announced their commitments on Tuesday.

Keeling’s announcement comes one day after junior point guard Seventh Woods announced that he was transferring from the program.

Keeling averaged 2.4 3-pointers made per game and shot 38 percent from 3-point range last year. Keeling has the potential to start alongside Anthony at guard.

North Carolina lost its top five scorers from last season’s team to either graduation or early draft entry.
