UNC lands fourth commitment - and second grad transfer - in past two weeks
North Carolina signee Armando Bacot Jr. hinted at it last week with a cryptic tweet.
“One more everybody we not done yet,” he tweeted last Friday, shortly after Charleston Southern transfer Christian Keeling announced his commitment to UNC.
Bacot was right.
On Thursday, the Tar Heels landed William & Mary transfer Justin Pierce. He was also considering Notre Dame and Michigan. Pierce visited UNC on April 28.
“North Carolina offers me the best opportunity to chase my dreams on and off the court,” Pierce said in a message on social media. “While playing on the biggest stage, I will also be earning my MBA and building lifelong connections that will help me pursue my goal of working in the front office of an NBA organization after my playing career ends.”
He becomes the fourth player to commit to UNC over the last two weeks. Both Cole Anthony, the top guard in the nation, and Anthony Harris, a top 50 guard, signed with the Tar Heels last week.
Pierce, a 6-7, 215-pound guard, was second on his team in points per game (14.9), first in rebounds (8.9) and first in assists (4.1) last season. He shot 45.7 percent from the floor. He was voted third team all-conference.
During the 2017-18 season, he averaged 14.7 points per game, 8.6 rebounds, shot 41.6 percent from behind the 3-point line and 50.2 percent from the floor overall.
Pierce, 20, graduated from William & Mary in three years and will join the Tar Heels as a grad transfer. He will be immediately eligible.
